You can take a tour of the estuary commandeered by boat that leaves at the convergence of the river into the Tamarindo bay. This $20 2 hour tour takes you up the river into the protected park area. A variety of birds can be seen along with crocodiles, crabs and monkeys. Up the river a ways you will disembark and walk a short distance through the forest which contains 1000”s of crabs while searching for one of the various Howler monkey families. Our recommendation is to take the tour with a local Tico Jorge (PIC) who speaks English and is very knowledgeable about the area and its plants and wildlife. Jorge is an avid fisherman who has worked for years on chartered fishing boats. It is also possible to set up a fishing expedition with him.

These rides can be arranged to travel through the beach, mountains or through some of the Tico towns just outside of Tamarindo. There is no better way to see the local Tico life then to go through some of these towns and stop at a local bar in Villa Real for and a beer and local food while meeting all the very friendly locals. The horses are strong and well maintained. This trip costs $25 and lasts 2 hours.

An exciting way to see how the forest looks from in the trees is an unforgettable experience and a good way to see iguanas and lizards perched atop the trees. The tour lasts around 1 hour and goes through 5 zip lines. The construction of these lines are ecofriendly and very safe. This tour is taken in the city Cartagena about 20 minutes out side of Tamarindo, while heading towards Liberia, right next to the Monkey Park/Rehabilitation Center. The guides speak English and will show you some of the natural medicinal plant life in the canopies. The cost is 25 dollars
This park has a variety of monkeys, birds, wild cats, coyotes, butterflies and more. Guided tours are available for $15 and self guided tours for $5. There is also a large souvenir shop which the proceeds go directly to the park. There is usually chattering going on when no one else is around as some of the birds talk especially this one.
