Costa Rica Travel Tips
Costa Rica Entry Requirements
- Your passport must be valid for more than 6 months beyond your intended
stay for visit in Costa Rica.
- You must provide evidence of a return ticket or onward travel ticket.
- No visa is required for stays of less than 90 days for
citizens of the following countries: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil,
Canada, Denmark, Finland, France and dependencies, Germany, Greece, Holland
and dependencies, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg,
Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, South
Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago, United Kingdom,
United States of America, and Uruguay
- No visa is required for stays of less than 30 days for
citizens of the following countries:
- Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belize,
Bolivia, Bulgaria, Chile, Czech Republic, Dominica, El Salvador, Grenada,
Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Iceland, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Kuwait,
Mexico, New Zealand, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, San Cristobal /
Nevis, San Marino, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia,
South Africa, Suriname, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Vatican,
Venezuela.
- Citizens from countries not listed above must obtain a visa from a Costa
Rican embassy or consulate prior to entry into Costa Rica.
- If you overstay your entry stamp or visa, you will have to pay about
$50 to obtain an exit visa. To get one, visit a travel agent in San José,
who will, for a small fee, get one for you and save you the hassles of
dealing with immigration authorities.
- To stay beyond the length of your entry stamp or visa, the simplest
thing to do is to visit one of the neighboring countries of Panama or
Nicaragua. Stay for 72 hours and re-enter Costa Rica, obtaining a new
entry stamp or visa. But be careful. The Costa Rican government has cracked
down on "perpetual tourists", and if the authorities discover
a repeated pattern of exits and entries they can deny you at the border.
Travel quotes:
"A person needs at intervals to separate from family and companions and go to new places. One must go without familiars in order to be open to influences, to change."
