What You Can Bring - although Costa Rica customs officials
rarely check tourists' luggage, visitors arriving in Costa Rica are officially
allowed to bring the following into the country:
- 500 grams of tobacco
- 5 liters of liquor
- $500 in merchandise
- Electronic equipment (computers, cameras, digital music players) for
personal use are allowed duty free
What you can take home with you
- US citizens are allowed to leave Costa Rica with $800 worth of merchandise
duty free once every 30 days. A flat duty fee is applied to the next $1000.
Beyond this amount, duty fees vary. If you owe a duty fee, you're required
to pay the duty upon arrival in the United States.
